Writers of the Future is a respected Science Fiction and Fantasy short-story contest for new authors, that has been running since the mid 1980’s.
It’s free and open to authors who have not been professionally published. Some very well known authors in SF&F have started their way with wins there (Patrick Rothfuss, anyone?), and the list of past and present judges is awe-inspiring.
Why am I bringing this up? Because Girl on Fire, one my short Felix mysteries, has received an honourable mention in 2018!
While I don’t have TOR banging on my door just yet (it isn’t quite the grand-prize, after-all), this is still an impressive accomplishment that shows I’m on the right track.
So, if you haven’t already, read Girl on Fire (and the rest of Felix’s shorts, including the free novella Aquae et Ignis) — or jump straight into the full-length novels. This way, you could say you knew Felix and me even before the HBO mini-series made us household names 😉
Congratulations! That must be very gratifying.
